In the villages around Limoux at this time of the year there are literally thousands of wild orchids to be found. We dont really have hedges but they are everywhere in the grass verges beside the vineyards in the 'garrigue' the rocky stony land and along the pathways in the grassy banks.
They are of course a protected species, and they only exist in such numbers because we dont use pesticides and people respect their right to be there.
They herald that the Spring has truly arrived and they will be with us for a month or so. Here is one we identified this morning...
